STYLE FILES: Black and Gold goes Casual

Friday, September 20th, 2013

As the burnt loose ends of summer give way to crisper, cooler weather, the time has come to revisit our wardrobes, doing away with the old and making room for the new. We can hardly contain our excitement over the myriad of great footwear styles hitting the shelves this Autumn and naturally can’t help falling further in love with Fall.

With ankle booties galore and taller, knee high styles coming around, it seems impossible to choose just a few! Of course, we love the versatility of mid calf options, and the inspiring rain proof styles making their way into our stores. Now, what to do about how to choose?

Well, a great way to revamp your wardrobe is to identify a trend that speaks to your personal aesthetic, and build around that–always staying true to your unique sense of style. Like you, some of us at DNA have decided that Fall 2013 will be the year that we glam things up a bit–particularly our casual choices.

Yes! Informal ensembles can–and should– be functionally fashion forward. The easiest way to do it: BLACK & GOLD. Yes, Ladies, black and gold.

The epitome of sophisticated refinement and classic glamour, black and gold accents will make all the difference in going from drab to fab, in no time, flat. Trust, there is no need to be flash-tastic or over the top–subtlety and simplicity is key.

Inspired by Vera Wang’s Fall 2013 romantically soft rendition of the black and gold trend, we set out to reimagine a versatile look that goes from day to play with finesse. To recreate this look, start with a high waisted, floral trouser (preferably with gold flowers) and throw a black blazer over a black or white top of your choice (tucked in, of course). Add a super simple metallic gold tote–we don’t want too many details and buckles; the gold color is enough to make a statement. Finally, our favorite part–slip into these gorgeous (uber affordable!) gold capped, black high heel Luna booties by Wanted.

Happy Shopping, Glamazons!

Boots, Booties & Shooties: 4 Trends, 8 Styles to Die For

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

Is it Fall yet? Boot season – the best of them all – is upon us! From open-toe, calf hair, and lace-ups to buckles, zips, and studs, this fall it’s all about striking details! To get you excited about the cooler temperature, we’ve chosen 8 booties & shooties to literally die for – all budget considered!

The Bootie
Urban, ultra-chic, and high-heeled, the bootie surely has to have a special place in your shoe closet this season. Pony hair, and python-embossed leather, our heart melted for Lola Cruz and MICHAEL Michael Kors’ York booties. Whether you prefer pointed over rounded toe, pair these killer boots with leather leggings and jacket for a chic, urban rock star look that will wow your friends and foe alike.

The Wedge Shootie
Certainly more comfortable than stilettos, this season’s wedge shooties are featuring wood soles and leather craftsmanship. Our favorites? The perforated, open-toe Restricted Maiya wedge and the Bed:Stu Seville Shootie with its hand-finishing techniques that ensure your pair will be like no other on the planet!

The Combat Boot
Not only exclusive to Dr. Martens boots anymore, combat boots are now in all good fashionistas closets. Pair with denim, leggings and tights; the very popular Steve Madden Troopa is back in its classic black but also in a very rich dark green that is brand new this season. From street-chic, edgy details, to simple lace-ups, we also fall for Frye’s Veronica Combat Boot. Let your inner badass self out and get yourself a pair to rock!

The Buckled Bootie
Stud and buckle embellished straps, geo-metallic detailing, and metallic finishes, the hardware bootie is en-vogue this season. Our choice? We love the sassy, western-inspired design of the Matisse Bobbie bootie, and the smoothness of the camo suede and calf hair mix of Sam Edelman’s Penrose buckled up bootie.
