Brand Crush: Seychelles for Spring

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

With May arriving this week let’s celebrate by talking about Seychelles, DNA Footwear’s newest Brand Crush. May is always such a busy month and between Cinco de Mayo and Labor Day my month is already packed with events. We’ve got Mother’s Day brunch, sibling graduation ceremonies, and the ever looming wedding season sitting right in front of us. I know that I personally need at least  two spring heels or flats go get me through all that will be happening this spring. After such a long winter I’m looking forward to finally showing off the no-tights look and the Seychelles heel is exactly what I need to compliment the sundresses I’m ready to pull out from the back of my closet.

Seycelles come in all kinds of cute, spring pastel colors and the price point won’t put you out too much before summer starts. The retro-inspired design of the brand ensures a classic style that won’t look outdated when you look back at photos in the years to come. How great is that?

Even more exciting that the warm spring weather finally blowing through Brooklyn is this years celebration of Seychelles 30th anniversary. Lucky for us, in honor of the anniversary the brand has released a handful of their favorite styles giving them all new, modern twists. This Heritage collection perfectly captures the romantic, independent and femininity qualities that the brand honors. My favorites are definitely the One The Floor High Heel in Vacchetta and the Everybody Dance Mid Heel Sandal in Sea Green. I can’t wait to rock them this month. What are your favorite pairs of Seychelles for the spring?

1. So Much Time Embellished Flat Thong Sandal (Taupe), $59.99 2. Aim High Gladiator Sandal (Python Black White), $74.99 3. Playtime Mid Heel Pointed Toe Slingback Pump (Black), $84.99 4. Keds

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

Did you know the work “Sneaker” was created in 1916 by Keds! That’s right, Nike, Reebok etc owe this worldwide terminology to Keds. The iconic brand has been a part of some defining moments in history, making appearances in such shows as Happy Days, Saved by the Bell and movies such as Dirty Dancing (we all remember Jennifer Grey’s character, Baby’s famous dance scene on the stone stairs and bridge in her white Keds) and Twilight. Keds has even been a part of a few infamous moments in celebrity history, remember a shaved-head Brittney Spears and the umbrella incident? Yep, she was wearing Keds. Today celebs and the mere mortals who love them are still captivated by these comfy and iconic shoes. Designers and brands like Tracy Reese, Alice + Olivia, Madewell, and Steven Alan are just a few that have collaborated with the famous brand. The iconic shoes are available in solids and prints, slip-on and laced up styles.

The Champion has been the go-to Keds style sneaker since its creation. This season, Keds introduces some fun and whimsical prints which give a playfully modern touch to this classic silhouette. Show your love with the Champion Love Print Slip-On, rock the leopard-print flat trend celebs are loving right now with the Champion Animal Print Sneaker. Not a fan of leopard, try zebra with the Champion Zebra Print Laceless Sneaker, or if you just a print that’s a bit more girly, be like Elle Fanning and go for the Champion Floral Sneaker.

The Fabulous Forties

Monday, July 9th, 2012

One of the biggest inspirations for fall 2012 fashion is the 1940’s, an era of simple elegance. Designers such as John Galliano, Jason Wu and Jenny Packman (who’s forties-inspired makeup was done with Laura Mercier’s Cinema Noir Fall 2012 Makeup Collection – a collection which brings the 1940‘s makeup back) all featured collections that celebrated the glamorous era. In the forties, fashion was simplified, clean and non-complex, due primarily to the war and its effect on fabric availability. 1940’s fashion displayed the strength of that time and effortless styling. But while hemlines got higher, heel heights remained moderately low.

The demure styles feature a silhouette that is as graceful as the typical forties style but with a modern take. Get a step up on the fashion competition with these vintage-inspired styles from Mariana by GOLC – Samantha Strappy Mid Heel Sandal, Michelle Low Heel Open-Toe Pump, Misty Low Heel Shoe, and the Stacie Low Heel Shoe.

Trend Alert – Jeffrey Campbell Homg Low Wedge Sneaker

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

.From the time they hit the fashion scene, wedge sneakers have been a total hit. Fashionistas (and children of the 90’s) everywhere love the combination of the casual comfort of a sneaker with the style of a wedge. Those of us in the 90’s remember sneakers with huge platforms, a style the Spice Girls and club kids made popular.

Homg Low Wedge Platform Sneaker - Black

As one of the “sneakers” in Jeffrey Campbell’s JC Play Collection, the Homg Low Wedge Sneaker has been seen on several celebrities . In fact, both Miley Cyrus and Carly Rae Jepson were recently spotted in a pair of these flatforms, Miley in the studded version and Carly in the floral print. But don’t let the word sneaker fool you, these are not for athletic activities but then again shopping is a sport. You can rock them with denim shorts like Miley and Carly or really bring back the 90’s by pairing them with a cute summer dress.
