What woman wouldn’t want to be fashionably comfortable this summer?  Exactly, we all do! This is why we are going back to basics with creatively chic strappy flat sandals.  Whether they are gladiator inspired like our super fresh Ivory Red Cayman Hi Flat Sandal by Jeffrey Campbell or simple and trendy like Damiani’s Leopard Flat Sandal; prints or re-inventive embellishment is KEY to creating a stylish summer look.

2589S2 Flat Sandal - Leopard Ryan Flat Casual Sandal - Platinum Natural
Rival Flat Sandal - Black Suede Cayman-Hi Flat Sandal - Ivory Red

Like most of Jeffrey Campbell’s inventions, the unique take on his Black Suede Rival Flat Sandal is an artistic design we don’t often see but it truly expresses undeniable elegance.  The sandal’s black suede layer would enhance any ensemble and give you that sophisticated classy appeal we all long to have. Juicy Couture also presents another glamorous style choice with its Ryan Flat. The Platinum Ryan Flat Casual Sandal is gloriously glitzy and the platinum leather straps will have you dazzling the streets for days on end. Shoe Brands: Seychelles

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Leap year has us springing forward for Seychelles’ sophisticated silhouettes and nostalgic nudes. With the Investigate bow-top flats or the Case Closed suede wedges you’ll be solving New York’s latest mystery: where did that snowy Winter go?

Make way for Spring cleaning and replace grey skies with Seychelles’ Haven’t Got a Worry heels in Grey or go nude with the platform sandals in Vacchetta. Embrace the breeze and let your toes breathe.

If you’re not quite ready to let your toes out but have Good Intentions, the T-Strap wedges will keep things fun and flirty with a hatched, closed-toe  in Orange or Black leather. Accented with a four and a half inch wooden wedge and comfy cushioned footbeds these versatile sandals are just the right fit for any occasion.

Seychelles’ classic elegance offers a lavish selection to put that Spring back in your step for the changing of the seasons. With mysteries solved, no worries and good intentions march into March as a natural beauty and you’ll be sure to attract the bees.

Designer Spotlight: NewbarK

newbarK

What gal doesn’t heart cute shoes? Designers and sisters Maryam and Marjan Malakpour literally “heart them” for their spring NewbarK collection.

As a stylist, I’m always looking for unique shoes for photoshoots, as well as fashionable and comfortable ones for my own busy feet. So, when I came across this fairly new shoe line from fellow stylists, it made sense that these two would transition into shoe design.

NewbarK is a luxury collection of handmade shoes and handbags, originally launched in 2009 by the Malakpour sisters. Crafted in an artisan factory in Los Angeles, NewbarK shoes and handbags exemplify a streamlined yet contrasting use of materials – leather, canvas, felt, suede and virtually no hardware, making these shoes chic, simple and modern.

You’ll heart these flats: they fold neatly into a small carrying pouch for the city girl on the go. With an aesthetic of Moroccan baboush meets Englishman’s leather slippers, they’re a sophisticated and stylish alternative to ballet flats. Think of them as the grown up version of your weekend shoe.

Trend Alert: Pretty Punk — Botanical Beauties

Monday, January 30th, 2012

floral

Gawking in awe at Spring prints, New Yorkers wonder when we’ll get the chance to brighten our wardrobe with botanical beauties. We won’t be able to live with ourselves come spring if we don’t find some way to incorporate florals into our wardrobe without looking like a 16-year old teenybopper with a propensity for Lisa Frank.

You have two options when it comes to florals: you can go the feminine route with flats or flatforms or you could add some edge to balance out the dainty dresses with combat boots. When it comes to accessorizing your florals play with prints but be careful because print on print can go terribly wrong (we don’t need you coming back crying to us because you made a fashion fail).

brian atwood

Brian Atwood is a favorite among many and for good reason; the Milan-based designer with American roots, design shoes that are the epitome of style. Since 2001, Brian Atwood has poured his creativity into amazingly chic women’s shoes. His style harnesses both modernism and glamour, combined with a raw sex appeal and impeccable construction.

The spring/resort 2012 collection follows his past collections in absolute fabulosity — you can find towering platforms, color-blocking, metallics, tribal prints, polka dots, cage details, fringe, and exotic skins. Pair some of the towering platforms with flare jeans to make a statement or spice up your little black dress with some of the gorgeous fringe strappy sandals. Brian Atwood’s spring collection will bring that “je ne say quois” to any outfit, as well as bring about that extreme confidence within, which only an amazing pair of shoes can do.

Q&A (With DNA)

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

winter boots

Q: Can winter boots be stylish?

A: Let’s let the shoes do the talking — because we have such a wide variety of boots available it’d be hard to answer simply. Above is just a brief glimpse into the hundreds of fashion-forward boots DNA Footwear carries. Winter doesn’t mean layers that make you look like the Pillsbury Doughboy and boots fit for eskimos; there are ways to keep chilly chic.

The best way to stay in style while keeping warm is to stick with a neutral palette that mixes and matches well with the massive layers above, wear sleek clean lines that don’t look chunky or turn your feet into boats, leave behind the excessive fur trimmed boots (*cough* Snookie *cough*), and don’t be afraid to add some heel (with proper traction, not to be worn on snow days).

There is not excuse for frumpy winter footwear… NONE.
