On January 18, 2012, Â Nike announced that the beloved Converse corporation will launch several collections of skate shoes in Spring 2012. Â As part of the Converse Skate Ambassador Collection, pro skaters Nick Trapasso, Anthony Pappalardo and Kenny Anderson will each have shoes released on February 1st, 2012 .
Partnering with the professional skaters was inevitable — Trapasso started his own company, Life Extension Skateboards, along with fellow skater Patrick Pasquale. “Trapasso’s signature shoe is called the CONS Trapasso Pro and will feature a multi-density sock liner and full memory foam collar that are designed to conform to the skater’s feet” (Yahoo). Trapasso’s Converse will be available in either suede or leather and either black and white or gray and cranberry, while Pasquale’s will be canvas or suede, available in brown and black or gray and red. Anderson’s skate shoes, the KA-ONE, will “come in black and red, red and parchment, parchment and white, black and white as well as black and parchment” (Yahoo).
With so many materials and colors to choose from, skaters are sure to do their next ollie in style (whatever an ollie is….).

I may only run on the treadmill, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know a thing or two about the importance of proper athletic footwear. Way back in the day, before I found solace in sequins and leopard print, I use to play nearly every sport. For those who know me this may be a shocker…keep in mind I never said I was GOOD at these sports. During my “I want to be just like Brandy Chastain’ stage, I cared little about proper footwear and today I pay the price with two fluid-filled knees (GROSS) and my joints’ newly found ability to sense cold weather.
If you don’t want to end up running a block only to have to stop and ice your knees, pay close attention to what you slide your feet into. Those neon kicks may accessorize well with your new sports bra or athletic shorts but are they really improving your health and performance?
Help the athlete in your life look good and feel good with some of the top sporting footwear for both men and women.

If you know me, you know I’m not the MOST athletic of individuals, so in writing a ‘How To: Athletic Shoe Shop’ post, I conducted endless research. From all of the references, this is what I learned and am imparting this wisdom on you. “Athletic shoes are a $20 billion industry, and there are hundreds of brands, models and features on the market today” (eHow) so choose wisely.
{1} Decide what specific type  fits your needs, whether it be a running shoe, a cross trainer, or anything in between.
{2} Measure BOTH of your feet –You’d be surprised how many people purchase shoes too small or too large, which can hurt both your athletic performance and your health. Note:Â You need a fingers width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
{3} Know your foot type — Are you flat footed, do you have a high arch, or are you an overpronator or supinator? (See Definitions)
{4} Set a budget
{5} Read customer reviews online
{6} For in-store purchases, try on BOTH (yes, I’m stressing both) and walk laps around the store.
{7} Select appropriate socks.
{8} When in doubt, ask a podiatrist.
