Footwear News: Halle Berry Launches Shoe Collection

Monday, January 30th, 2012

halle berry shoes

Apparently having a shoe collection is the new “IT” thing to do; it feels like every day we report that some celebrity or reality star wants an in with the fashion industry.  One such celebrity is Halle Berry, who is quickly becoming a woman of all trades. The actress slash Revlon spokeswoman teamed up with popular German retailer Deichmann Shoes to create her own line:  ’5th Avenue by Halle Berry’ collection.

Fitting for women her age (we mean that in the kindest way possible), the collection features fairly low heels and wedges, mixing comfort and style for the modern mom. Boasting 40 limited edition shoes, Berry is proud of the new baby in her life, her shoe line. In discussing her new endeavor she said,

“Shoes are a statement. They can be very sexy; they can say something about where you are in the day; they can say what your mood is; they give you a chance to accessorize. And I’m a girl that loves to change my shoes all the time. It’s an expression of who you are really. I’m a girl if I find a shoe that I really like I like to get them in all colours. I’m big on that.”

With the reasonable starting price of £29.99, budget savvy mothers are eagerly awaiting the UK launch in March.

Footwear News: Karl Lagerfeld Launches Lower-priced Line, Karl

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

karl

The man can do no wrong — Karl Lagerfeld, the “king” of fashion, never fails to amaze us with his many styling and design talents (not to mention the 30 iPads he carries with him at all times). Lagerfeld’s diffusion line, Karl, launched January 25th and is sold exclusively online at Net-a-Porter.

Alike to his own personal style, the budget collection features black and white clothing and accessories retailing from $50 for a canvas tote to aprox. $1,000 for leather pieces. As to be expected, Karl’s trademark fingerless leather gloves make an appearance as do fabulous faux colors. Among the 70-piece collection are 8 pairs of shoes, from metallic sneakers to gladiator sandals, the footwear is simple yet impressive.

We can handle the trademark Karl profile on the tees and tanks, but what about the shoes?! Walking with the support of Lagerfeld on your soles would sure put a pep in our step (we’re just sayin…it’s suggestion for the next collection).

Friday, January 20th, 2012

adidas opening cermony

While  no pictures have been released, this week it was confirmed that famed athletic shoe company Adidas is teaming with Opening Cermony for a capsule collection of reinterpreted Adidas Originals. The 100 piece collection will honor this summer’s Olympic games, an event that Opening Cermony holds true to their heart.

“The idea of Opening Ceremony re-creating Adidas Originals products with their creative sensibility in mind was something that intrigued us,” the label’s global creative director, Dirk Schönberger, told WWD. “Once we delved deeper, we discovered Opening Ceremony’s close ties to the idea of the Olympics and with London coming up this year, it was just the perfect fit.”

In learning more about this collaboration it was brought to our attention, by  The Coveted K, that the collection will not only include footwear but clothing as well. Footwear will retail between $140 and $235, while the clothing will  range from $100 to $630. One vote yes for the footwear but one huge thumbs down on the price of the clothing… that is until we actually see the collection with our own eyes…

Golden Globes 2012 Footwear Roundup

Monday, January 16th, 2012

golden globes shoes

“The biggest stars of film and television descended upon the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 15 for Hollywood’s “biggest party” and for the announcement of this year’s 69th annual Golden Globes” (Hollywood Reporter). Television and film icons dripping in jewels, gowns, and tuxes proudly walked the red carpet as cameras flashed and fans gawked in awe from their living rooms.

Like many formal award ceremonies, the floor-length gowns often hide our favorite part: the shoes. Those who showed us some leg, provided us a peek at their sky-high stilettos — black, tan, metallic, black, some more tan, then a hint of metallic. Unlike the MTV awards or the Grammys, most played it cool with sopistocated simple pumps, none adventuring outside of the neutral palette. All in all, a ho-hum year for shoes, leaving us hoping for more.

News: Manolo Blahnik Spring ’12 Collection

Friday, January 13th, 2012

manolo

Manolo Blahnik recently released an outrageous spring 2012 shoe collection — one that is bright, colorful, unique, and full of brilliant designs.

They are not for the faint of heart and are inspiring, creative, and in some ways- very unexpected.  The collection featured color-blocking, transparency, florals, stripes, polka dots, and unusual heels. While most are boldly beautiful, there are a few classics (though they are no less attention-grabbing!).

The styles include heels, ranging from high to low, open-toe heels, high heel sandals, low heel sandals, flat sandals, booties, and even boots! There are so many different styles and designs within the spring collection that every girl owes it to herself to check out.

Oh and if you thought you were going to have to yet again sacrifice comfort for that sexy heel, think again; this collection was designed to be comfortable as much as it was designed to be incredibly stylish. Every shoe has perfect balance, whether it’s a heel or a flat; Blahnik recently mentioned in an interview that the “designs are important, but comfort is paramount.” We couldn’t agree more!
