Footwear News: Kim Kardashian Designs Shoes for the Duchess of Cambridge

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

kim kardashian

Not only does Kim Kardashian run the reality TV world, but also has her hand in on online shoe retailer ShoeDazzle. In honor of her love of shoes and the letter K, Kim decided to pay tribute to Kate Middleton. Why not? They both are tabloid icons, got married to famous men last year, and their names start with the letter K — it was only right.

Turning Middleton’s 30th birthday into a chance to exploit more money out of fans, Kim “designed” a shoe named ‘The Duchess’ in honor of Middleton, “because every woman should feel like a princess every day”. Available on ShoeDazzle for £39.95, the black quilted faux-leather high heel  features  “classic quilting and [a] graceful silhouette channel[ing] the Duchess’s classic style.”

You can exaggerate it all you want Kim, but that shoe is still a plain black pump and is still NOT worth that price…no matter whose name you attach to it. Nice try though.

The History of Footwear: A Timeline Flashback

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

shoe historyshoe history

Travel back in time with us as we explore the history of footwear.

1920′s — The 1920′s were about  the fashionable flapper, flaunting short hair, short skirts, and risqué shoes with kitten heels.

1940′s — During WWII with nationalism at a height, footwear took a backseat and fashion lacked the importance it held in the 1920′s.

1960′s– Rightfully named the swingin’ 60′s, with Twiggy as a style icon women wanted to change the world (and fashion).

1980′s — Think leg warmers, shoulder pads, big hair, and jellies (yes, the jellies that made your feet sweat).

1990′s — The Spice Girls took the music and the fashion world by storm, bringing the UK to the US and along with them, platforms.

Today — Fashion bloggers and magazine editors dictate what’s in style and according to these “know-it-alls” Jeffrey Campbell Litas and flatforms are here to stay. The flatforms along with the Dr. Martens are a revivial of footwear from the past– flatforms are the new platform and Dr. Martens are no longer stuck in the 90′s. Along with the trend of bloggers dictating style comes celebrities engaging in footwear designs, including Rachel Zoe, Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Perez Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and more.

Sparkle and Shine with Perez Hilton & ShoeDazzle

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Best know for celebrity bashing, gossip columnist Perez Hilton is one of many celebrities that was recently tapped by ShoeDazzle to design charity shoes.  Among Hilton’s “Celebrity Shoe Design Program for Charity”  peers are Kim Kardashian, Kristin Cavallari, and Jenny McCarthy — just to name a few.

The fashion-forward media mogul designed not one but TWO shoes for ShoeDazzle (always trying to top the celebrities). Hilton chose to donate 100% of the profits from both shoes to GLSEN: Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, which addresses LGBT issues in K-12 schools.

According to Look to the Stars, “the first shoe Hilton designed, named “Sparkle,” is a black faux suede pump with silver stud detailing on the heel, platform and dual ankle straps. The second is a casual unisex silver metallic sneaker with stud embellishments and zipper detailing, named “Shine.”  The pump and sneaker will be available on November 11th, exclusively in ShoeDazzle showrooms.”

In discussing the charity collaboration, Perez remarked,  ”I designed one amazing shoe that Carrie Bradshaw would drool over. But I also wanted to make a unisex and sophisticated sneaker that I could wear too! ”

As if Hilton was not charitable enough (never thought I’d be saying that), ShoeDazzle is presenting a further fundraising opportunity to first time clients, Perez Hilton fans and GLSEN supporters: $5 from any first time purchase on ShoeDazzle.com using the code PEREZ at checkout, beginning October 24 – November 15, will be donated to GLSEN as well.

What are you waiting for? Go shop for charity!

VMA Fashion Roundup

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

When Hurricane Irene slams New York it becomes increasingly difficult to watch the MTV VMA’s. Like many, a loss of power meant missing Lady Gaga dressed in drag, Beyoncé’s baby bump, and the surprise Jay-Z and Kanye West performance. Without spoiling it for those who will watch it on MTV.com, let’s highlight the night’s best and worst fashion moments.

Beyoncé shows off her baby bump with a fiery orange Lanvin sheath from the Fall 2011 collection.

When it was time to perform, Beyoncé changed into a purple-sequined Dolce & Gabbana tux (again showing off her baby bump).

Adele keeps it classy in a Barbara Tfank midi-length dress (She must have gotten the midi memo from the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar).

Katy Perry in head-to-toe Dior topped off with cotton-candy locks.

Since outfit changes were a common theme throughout the night, Katy Perry hopped on board the hat bandwagon with a Rubik's Cube headpiece.

Kanye West pays homage to the “Canadian Tuxedo” with double denim Balmain style.

Miley Cyrus ages herself with this Roberto Cavalli floor-length number. May we advise picking a more age appropriate dress in the future.

Actress Zoe Saldana shows off her legs in a mini black shift by Barbara Sui.

Lady Gaga fails to amaze dressed as Jo Calderone…we get it, you want to make a statement.

Nicki Minaj raids Lady Gaga’s closet creating a mismatched Japanimation themed ensemble.

Rolling Stone may have given Justin Bieber two thumbs down but how do you go wrong mixing a leopard, red, and black motif? Could it be the all-too-small women’s blazer paired with the dainty glasses frames?

The pop princess, Britney Spears, cleans up nicely in a zig-zag print Moschino romper, finishing the look off with open-toed patent-leather platform boots.

Newlywed Kim Kardashian shows off her infamous bottom in a form-fitting silver beaded gown with a sheer back panell, leaving us to ask, "What was she thinking?!"

What can you expect from Snooki? Boobs, boobs, and more boobs.

Snooki’s couterpart, JWoWW got the boob memo as well showing off her "purchases" dolled up in a plunging metallic minidress.

Deena Cortese poses as Rainbow Brite gone wrong.

Ne-Yo -- Real men shimmer in Prada.

Jessie J makes a cast and crutches look fashionable, jewel-encrusted head-to-boot.

And the winner for best dressed is… Selena Gomez in an exquisite lace Julien Macdonald gown, Brian Atwood pumps, and matching Judith Leiber clutch.

From Rubik’s Cubes to crutches, the VMA red carpet was a mash-up of the tasteful and tasteless.  Who are your picks for the best and worst of the 2011 VMAs?

Kim Kardashian Loves Report Fairfax Boots

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
thigh-high boots

Kim Kardashian sure loves her Report Signature Fairfax boots.  She’s been seen in the black, brown, and taupe versions of the boot, but she wears her basic black pair most of all.  Kim wears her Fairfax boots with black leggings…the better to show off her famous derriere.  Kim is nothing if not an international sex symbol, so we’re going to follow her lead here and say that these have got to be some of the sexiest boots around.

The Fairfax boot is crafted of luxurious leather and slit in the back so that it can be worn thigh-high or cuffed for a different look.  The boots are fitted to the leg, so break out your skinniest skinnies or rock leggings like Kim.  Thigh-high boots are still the boot trend of the year, and we don’t see it going anywhere soon.

Over the Knee Boots are Still Hot, Hot, Hot!

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

This is one trend that hasn’t died down yet.  Over-the-knee boots are still the sexiest statement-makers out there for chilly weather.  Bonus: they keep your legs cozy warm!

Here, Victoria’s Secret model Ana Beatriz Barros is gorgeous in simple black leather over the knees.  (We love her dress, too.)

Kim Kardashian is the queen of the over the knee boot.  We love the softer look this chocolate brown leather gives.  If you buy boots that have a slit in the back, like both pairs above, you can fold down the tops for a cuffed look, like Kim sports in this pic.

Here are our current editors’ fave over-the knees for the season:

These Folklore boots by Seychelles are adorable: we love the soft tan suede, the stacked heel, and the buckle details.  But the best thing about these boots is that they knit piece at the top is detachable: you get both knee-high and over-the-knees at once!  And when this trend finally ends, you’ll be prepared!

There’s only one word for these Fairfax boots by Report Signature: gorgeous.  Rich brown leather, a great shape, and the ability to cuff or wear over-the-knee make these all-around winners.

These Atcholi boots are sleek, simple, and totally wearable.  And at $79.99, they’re the best deal of the bunch.

Kardashian Shoe Mania! The Kardashians Take New York

Friday, November 26th, 2010

the Kardashian's shoe fashion

For the latest season of their hit reality TV show, the Kardashian sisters picked New York City. Recently opening the newest Dash store, Kim and Courtney took Soho by storm with their fabulous taste in fashion. The Kardashians have been providing some of the most entertaining stuff on television for a couple years now, but that’s not the only reason why we love them. The Kardashian sisters are Hollywood’s number one trendsetting sister act. Their decadent beauty and luxurious style has made them style icons for fashionistas everywhere. Filming during New York’s winter cold, the Kardashian sisters are showing off their fabulous boot repertoire for all of us to covet. A Kardashian favorite is the gorgeous boot selection from Report Signature. A few of the Kardashian-favored Report Signature creations include the Fitzgerald cuffed boot and Fairfax over the knee boots. Report Signature really pulled out all the stops on the thigh-high sky-high front this year, and we’re seeing them everywhere. As shown by the Kardashian sisters, Report Signature makes the over the knee high heel boot look better–and sexier–than ever!

Shoe of the Week: Steve Madden 'Troopa' Combat Boot

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

The combat boot is the a perennial classic that is definitely hot this fall. Every single major designer from the runways to stores has their own take on this fabulous yet rugged trend. The great thing about combat boots is that while they are specific in concept, they are extremely versatile. Combat boots certainly don’t need to be worn with military-esque clothing; in fact, they can look extremely cute with short girly dresses (contrast is great!), or just a plain t-shirt and jeans. One of this season’s combat boot favorites is the Steve Madden Troopa.

The Troopa is a perfect boot if you’re looking to get on the combat boot trend train, because it is very true to classic style. It has clean design lines, and a timeless quality – so while they are totally on-trend now, you aren’t going to look outdated wearing them next fall either. The Steve Madden Troopa can be worn cuffed, un-cuffed, fully laced or partly unlaced, adding another level to their versatility. Check out Jessica Alba sporting a pair of Troopas with a motorcycle jacket.

For a more feminine look, Kendall Jenner (Kim Kardashian’s younger sister) chose to pair the Troopa with a classic and feminine outfit.
