Footwear News: Halle Berry Launches Shoe Collection

Monday, January 30th, 2012

halle berry shoes

Apparently having a shoe collection is the new “IT” thing to do; it feels like every day we report that some celebrity or reality star wants an in with the fashion industry.  One such celebrity is Halle Berry, who is quickly becoming a woman of all trades. The actress slash Revlon spokeswoman teamed up with popular German retailer Deichmann Shoes to create her own line:  ’5th Avenue by Halle Berry’ collection.

Fitting for women her age (we mean that in the kindest way possible), the collection features fairly low heels and wedges, mixing comfort and style for the modern mom. Boasting 40 limited edition shoes, Berry is proud of the new baby in her life, her shoe line. In discussing her new endeavor she said,

“Shoes are a statement. They can be very sexy; they can say something about where you are in the day; they can say what your mood is; they give you a chance to accessorize. And I’m a girl that loves to change my shoes all the time. It’s an expression of who you are really. I’m a girl if I find a shoe that I really like I like to get them in all colours. I’m big on that.”

With the reasonable starting price of £29.99, budget savvy mothers are eagerly awaiting the UK launch in March.

t-strap heels

Thanks to Who What Wear for inspiring today’s “T-Strap Trend” post — inspiring us and our readers to add dainty details to our closet. A flashback to classic footwear, the 1920′s, and dancer’s heels.

Mind your manners ladies because the t-strap is all about being prim and proper. Celebrities and bloggers alike go from rocker chic to perfect princess just by adding a pair of t-strap stilettos to their wardrobes. Take a cue from Badgley Mischka, Pelle Moda, Ivanka Trump, and Sacha London, all of whom know a thing or two about timely footwear elegance.

Trend Alert: Bow-tiful

Monday, November 21st, 2011

dna footwear
If you’re an avid ELLE Magazine reader, then you know what’s hot for December: bows. From Stella McCartney to Valentino, designers are playing with feminine detailing in clothing and accessory styles.

This holiday season, ditch the glitter and sequins and soften your look with DNA Footwear. You may have a hard edge to you, leaning towards spikes and stud,s but we all know the holidays are about tenderness and these flats and heels (politely) scream daintiness.

Pair your bow-tiful new heels or flats with a less dainty outfit, meaning skip the matching bow dress AND bow handbag AND bow earrings…you get the point. It’s not about going overboard with the bows, instead make small details matter with a pop of femininity.

Footwear News: Manolo Goes Green

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

manolo

It’s not too often you see a high-end designers make anything eco-friendly, but Manolo Blahnik recently announced a new eco-friendly line that is sure to please!

Manolo Blahnik recently teamed up with award winning, eco-friendly fashion designer, Marcia Patmos to create Earth-conscious sandals for spring, based on Manolo Blahnik classics.

These sandals, styles including heels and flats, are made of raffia and cork, as well as discarded Tilapia skin — all of which are considered sustainable materials. The styles available are the double-strap flat as well as a gorgeous, sophisticated open-toed pump. Both styles come in a combination of fluorescent yellow, ecru, black, and electric blue.

In discussing the collaboration, designer Marcia Patmos said, “I am always researching sustainable materials and developments. I love the idea of tilapia skin because it is a by-product of the food industry that would otherwise be discarded, but it’s actually a beautiful material perfect for small leather goods. I love bringing the idea of sustainability into the luxury market — it doesn’t have to be limited to T-shirts and grocery bags.”

These luxurious, unique sandals will be available in Manolo Blahnik stores in 2012, retailing at $895 a pair.

What Would Carrie Do?

Monday, November 7th, 2011

dna footwear

You can’t be a shoe fanatic and not feel akin to Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) — the style icon who put Manolo on the map. While we don’t advise spending a month’s rent on one pair of Manolos or Loubs, you can still pull a ‘Carrie’ with DNA Footwear.

Before you select a pair or heels, ask yourself ‘What Would Carrie Do?’ and style accordingly. The fashionable New Yorker galavants around the city in only the most coveted footwear — from Swarovski crystals to bow embellished stilettos. Rarely will you catch Carrie in flats, which is unrealistic for a New Yorker who spends her days walking, but since it’s Sex and the City we’ll overlook this inaccuracy.

Shoe of the Week: Jeffrey Campbell Ripple

Thursday, July 14th, 2011
tasseled heels

Stars love tasseled heels

One of our favorite summer trends is tasseled heels. Spotted on stars like Kristen Bell and Blake Lively, this off-the-runway trend has been quickly spreading over Hollywood. We love the tasseled heel, a new and creative way to add more detail to a shoe. We’re over studs, cutouts and hardware; it is now all about the retro glamor of tassels. The stand-out tasseled heel of the season is the Jeffrey Campbell Ripple high heel sandal.

At four-and-a-half inches high, the Ripple embodies style through and through. Featured in both brown and nude luxury leather, this sandal adds understated glamor to any outfit. It has a very thick heel, which allows you to be comfortable even though they are extremely high. The Ripple sandals can be paired up with a simple pair of jeans or a cute summery dress. They are casual, so you can look stylish and fabulous every day. For that fresh and vintage summer look, get on the tassel train, and go for the Jeffrey Campbell Ripple.

Inspiration From The Ground Up

Getting stuck in a fashion rut is something that can be easy to do. While finding the essentials and developing a personal style is great, having predictable outfits and recycling the same look is not.

One way to break out of the rut is to use shoes as an inspiration. Buying a shoe you love that’s totally outside your regular comfort zone, or without first putting together outfits in your head, can jump-start any wardrobe.

The right shoe can also serve as a conversation piece for a simple outfit, and breathe new life into old clothes or outfits.

If you have simple taste and generally wear simple shoes, then keep it basic but push your style boundaries with an extra detail or two. Tassels or fringe on an updated loafer will go far, or you can push the envelope even further with something like the Ripple High Heel from Jeffrey Campbell.

Leopard is also always an inspiration for me. There are so many variations in prints, shoe style, textures, and even color (blue leopard?). Leopard shoes can be worn again and again, and never look the same with any two outfits.

For the in-between inspiration, non-traditional shapes and heels always do it for me. And color is an absolute must. Poetic License shoes are great at adding color and creating new lines on classic styles.

A good pair of fun, unique shoes can inspire me. Not necessarily to change the world, but at least to change the way I walk through the world! Give it a try yourself, and share your outfit creations with DNA Footwear on Facebook!
