These Shoes Are Made For Walking

Monday, May 14th, 2012

In cities like NYC, where people walk everywhere, continuously pounding the pavement tends to be hard on your feet — especially if you’re in heels. In this fashion capital, we forfeit comfort for the sake of style to stay current and on-trend. That usually means a lot of foot pain, but it turns out we can have the benefits of both. Whether you go for shine with metallics or standout with a bold color or print, there are shoes that can give the look you want without sacrificing your feet.

Frye – It’s All in the Details

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

When you’re the oldest shoe company in the US, its not difficult to continuously draw in customers especially when you capture your audience with your brand’s exceptional attention to details. Frye features styles made with three different dyes, embellishments and treatments. This spring’s sandals feature a mix of old and new, modern touches added to classic silhouettes.

Frye Corrina Stitch Wedge -  featuring antique soft leather, tonal pickstitching on the hem, vamp and ankle straps (which also features stud details) to add an extra layer of texture, it’s not difficult to see why its called the Stitch Wedge. The minimalist details makes this stacked hardwood heel with leather trim a classic that will surpass seasons.

Kara Trapunto Sandal -  styled perfectly for hot summer days and nights, this Latin roots, Bossa Nova-inspired T-Strap corked platform features the artisan Trapunto style of stitching – several parallel rows of stitching creating a design on the fabric. The raised leather piping and rivets add a bit of toughness to this chic sandal.

Sole Men – Vintage Shoe Company

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Ok guys, it’s your turn. No matter what you’ve got going on, Vintage Shoe Company has got a man’s foot covered, literally and figuratively. Their footwear selection is diverse for the kind of man you may currently be or perhaps the kind of man you want to be.

Vintage Shoe Company

The Vintage Shoe Company Vincent Mid Calf Boot is a broken-in leather boot with a sturdily constructed toe-box that will look great on those impromptu dinner and movie dates you may spring on your date. They’re great with slim, slightly faded indigo denim and a wash & wear button-down with either a casual unlined cotton blazer or a shrunken trench as a topper.

From dinners to romantic walks – move on to the Jerry Canvas Boot, a clean ankle high boot that’s reminiscent of the Blucher boot, which was originally made for the Prussian army. The traditional open lacing gives a wider opening to the foot which makes this a cool, comfortable shoe for strolling around the city. It looks great kept simple with tapered khakis and a cool pullover.

The Hampton Boat Shoe features casual comfort with a rich deep color. It’s a great classic hue for men and the nautical-inspired piping, slightly broken-in leather upper, gritty sole and the chukka height makes it a pretty good shoe to wear with slim shorts and a variety of tops from breezy tees to shrunken cardigans.

Jeffrey Campbell is known for creating the most architecturally and visually gorgeous shoes. His innovatively designed sky high heels have given him the moniker of footwear genius – an appropriate title. This spring make a statement in Jeffrey Campbell’s fearless and beguiling heels. A few favorites available now are:

jeffrey-campbell

1. Beebee Mid Platform Shoe – this style is also known as the “Flatform”, the perfect combination of the flat and platform shoe. This style was seen all over the runways last spring and is a great alternative to the platform as well as a perfect fir for those who want the height and a level surface.

2. Rockin-Ex High Heel – this show-stopping, peeptoe leopard pony hair platform booties features Jeffrey Campbell’s modern take on a 70′s style heel. The architectural cutout wooden wedge looks amazing with skinny jeans or rolled slouchy pants.

3. Follie High Platform Sandal – not quite a wedge but more than a heel, this towering retro-chic sandal features a sky-high platform, pop-art straps and a chunky wooden heel with a split; a wedge/platform heel hybrid that bring the free loving style of the past to the present time. It’s a great accent to a chic pair of shorts.

4. Str8 Lace Platform Sandal – another Jeffrey Campbell genius design moment is this heel-less platform. This lace covered work of art is Campbell’s avant garde translation of spring’s hottest shoe – the platform. The lace gives this sculpted beauty a vintage feel which work seamlessly when paired with maxi skirts and dresses. This must-have shoe also amps your style quota to maximum levels and since they are Jeffrey Campbell, they work great with any denim silhouette.

5. So Much High Heel Sandal – another favorite among fashionistas, this chunky wood heel features a burlap-wrapped platform and wide braided leather straps. This rustic country and sleek urban hybrid highlights the best of both regions – edgy toughness with high fashion style. They are especially stylish when paired with a more romantic look.

Designer Spotlight: NewbarK

Monday, January 30th, 2012

newbarK

What gal doesn’t heart cute shoes? Designers and sisters Maryam and Marjan Malakpour literally “heart them” for their spring NewbarK collection.

As a stylist, I’m always looking for unique shoes for photoshoots, as well as fashionable and comfortable ones for my own busy feet. So, when I came across this fairly new shoe line from fellow stylists, it made sense that these two would transition into shoe design.

NewbarK is a luxury collection of handmade shoes and handbags, originally launched in 2009 by the Malakpour sisters. Crafted in an artisan factory in Los Angeles, NewbarK shoes and handbags exemplify a streamlined yet contrasting use of materials – leather, canvas, felt, suede and virtually no hardware, making these shoes chic, simple and modern.

You’ll heart these flats: they fold neatly into a small carrying pouch for the city girl on the go. With an aesthetic of Moroccan baboush meets Englishman’s leather slippers, they’re a sophisticated and stylish alternative to ballet flats. Think of them as the grown up version of your weekend shoe.
