Getaway Trends 2014 | Styling Ankle Strap Sandals with Pastels & Metallics Pt. 1

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014

Grey winter days got you feeling blue? Pack your pastels, metallics & ankle strap sandals–then get away, at least for a weekend.
Okay, maybe a week…or even two!

There’s no need to wait for April to start sporting the Spring 2014 trends you find most appealing.
Get away, instead, and head somewhere sunny where your peach colored chiffon and blush blouses may flutter in the breeze; where rose gold and quiet corals dare to brighten sandy, nude neutrals. Buckle up those ankle strap sandals, and take your soles for a ride, but skip the heavy metal–light metallics do it right.

Escaping on a whim is easy if you pack light and keep your selections easy to mix and match–meaning when it comes to trying getaway trends, three is a magic number. No need to go overboard.
Our Blushing Beauty set is the perfect example of how to do this when styling ankle strap sandals with pastels and metallics: 3 of the top trends for Spring 2014.

You want to start building your getaway outfits with a flat shoe and a high heel.

A chic flat is essential because you can dress up your casual looks with ease, then pair them with your party dress when your toes can’t handle compromising style nor comfort.
In this set, we opted for the the pointed toe, Encino ankle strap sandal by Chinese Laundry in Soft Blush. (Also available in Black Blue Ink). We especially love Encino for its double ankle strap detail. This textured pointy toe flat features a thick ankle cuff, as well as a delicate ankle strap below that adds an extra touch of intrigue.

Of course, you’ll need a high heel for glamming up your dressier looks for a night on the town, or at the see-and-be-seen poolside brunch.
For this getaway guide to packing light, we went with the Lickety Split high wedge, ankle strap sandal by BC Footwear in Metallic Rose Gold Leather (Also available in Black Suede).

After you’ve picked your getaway sole mates, the rest is easy: pick a soothing pastel color that has your name written all over it and go with it.
Pick a blouse or two in similar shades that can be interchanged with shorts or a skirt that pairs just as well with your swim suit, too. Including one or two statements pieces with pretty prints or fun florals makes it easy to keep your other items basic enough to mix and match.

Caveat: No need to be matchy matchy with colors (check out our previous post on styling pastels)–just keep colors in the same family, and go for the color block technique.

In our next post, we will show you how to style this same trend, with an earthier twist–buckling up another set of ankle strap sandals (a high heel and a flat) while keeping up with the other Spring 2014 trends we’re currently crazy about: pastels and metallics!

Happy Travels!

new years eve

New Year’s Eve might be a couple of months away but it’s never too early to start thinking of ways to save money. One of the top resolutions people make each year is to spend less money and with DNA Footwear it’s easy! Here are a few looks that will make you can sparkle and shine wherever your NYE party is.

Wedges are always a good choice for a long night of dancing since they are easier to walk in. So if you plan on being a dancing queen this New Year try the shimmering “Jem” by MIA. These shoes are so sparkly you could drop them at midnight instead of the disco ball (but who would want to drop their shoes?)!

The Kelsie Dagger “Gracie” are pure gilded deliciousness on a platform. These shoes exude an air of subtle sexiness with it’s shimmer and pale color combined with dangerous height and will make any outfit pop.

The Chinese Laundry “Harvest Moon” peep toes combined with an edgy dress tones the dress down while still adding a fun sparkle to your outfit. Black might be classic but these sequins certainly aren’t!

Trend Tuesday: Go Nude

Nude High Heels

If all the stylists said you should go nude, would you? Well you should! Nude shoes look great on everyone with a variety of different shades available to match your skin here at DNA Footwear. When your heels blend with your legs, it elongates them AND there is no color that nude clashes with, so you can wear them with anything!

The Charles Jourdan “Candice” heels, have an oh-so-professional point contrasted by a sassy 4 inch heel. These shoes can literally be worn with anything, seriously, I dare you to find something they don’t look great with!

For an open toe variation to keep your piggies ventilated, try the Chinese Laundry “Hotness”. They really are the hotness with a 1 inch platform and a 5 1/4th inch heel for maximum leg lengthening.

Cahoot” by L.A.M.B. takes the standard nude pump up a notch with a surprisingly squared toe combined with a spiked heel and a platform. You might love these comfy, durable, heels so much that you’ll want two—and you can because they come in black as well.

How To: Budget Shoe Shop

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

When you come to DNA Footwear you can expect to not only get top quality shoes but also the best price possible. When shopping vast selections of shoes it is often difficult to find your favorite styles at a price that fits your budget (If you’re like me your taste doesn’t match my bank account balance).

How to shop for shoes on a budget:

1. Allot a “shoe budget” for yourself — this can be weekly, monthly, or yearly depending on your shoe addiction level. Put this money in your savings account or that shoe fund jar that’s collecting dust on your desk.
2. Create a schedule of shoe purchases based on the seasons. Say, you’ll need 3 pairs of boots come November then you may need to up your budget in November (boots are often pricey).
3. Moodboard It — Create a visual collage of styles and designers you fawn over, which will give you an idea of what fits your personal style best.
4. Research sample sale sites like Rue La La, Gilt Group, and Mintbox, bargain footwear companies like us (of course), and lower price-point brands such as Steve Madden, Minnetonka, Chinese Laundry, Chelsea Crew, Asics, Merrell, Keds, Converse, Vans, and more!
5. Keep your eyes peeled for coupon codes and giveaways (Hint Hint: We host 2 giveaways a month AND offer exclusive discounts on our Facebook).

When in doubt, make a wish list and beg your friends and family to contribute to your "shoe-aholic fund"!

Get the Look: Matching Pumps

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

olivia wilde pumps

An all-year-round essential in any girls closet is a good pair of high heeled pumps. The beauty of pumps is that they give you instant height, flatter your body shape, and make you feel glamorous at the same time. The latest pump trend in Hollywood: Trendy sheath dresses with high heel pumps in a matching color. This sultry looks embodies old Hollywood style, while adding a level of new drama. Glee Star Diana Agron pulls off the look in a vintage inspired black dress and pumps to match, while Olivia Wilde lives up to her last name and goes for a more risqué look all in bright red.
The key to this old Hollywood look is a new twist on two classics – the sheath dress and the high heeled pump – and it achieves a feeling of put-together sexiness. This season, Chinese Laundry has a wide variety of pumps in different colors to achieve this look. For Olivia Wilde’s bright red look go for the Chinese Laundry Whistle in red, and for Diana Agron’s more demure look, try the Wink Wink black velvet pump.

Get the Look: Cutout Louboutins

All these fabulous ladies love the Christian Louboutin Circus cutout bootie.  This is a super-sexy look, and we dig the architectural vibe it gives off: so 2011!  Of course, Christian Louboutins are a big pricey: these retail for around $1,400.  And unless you have a red carpet to walk, that might seem a bit excessive.

Nevertheless, these shoes are a great way to add a little big of a edginess to your going-out outfits.  You could pair them with an ultra-feminine dress like Catherine McNeil to give your romantic look a little bit of a hard edge.  Or you might match them with your skinniest jeans and a floaty top for an effortlessly sexy night look.

Luckily, your dreams for these shoes don’t have to remain dreams!  Check out these much more affordable (and totally adorable) look-alikes.

These Hint cutout booties by Chinese Laundry have all the sexiness of their Louboutin counterparts at a much more reasonable price ($109.99).  These unique booties are very on-trend and a great look for 2011.

Sex and the City Returns, As Does Big Shoe Fashion

Friday, May 28th, 2010

I have no problem admitting that I’m a Sex and the City addict. Not only did I watch every episode religiously when it aired on HBO, but I now own every season on dvd, books about Sex and the City, as well as the first feature film. When I found out there was going to be a second feature film awhile back, I practically screeched with joy.

One of the reasons why so many women (including myself) adore this series, other than the interesting characters, is the entertainment, awe, and education we get from the amazing fashion demonstrated by the leading ladies of  Sex and the City. First and foremost, who hasn’t learned about the greatness of shoes from Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw? She is the epitome of a stylish, fashion-forward woman, and her trademark is her love of shoes. (Does anyone else remember the episode when she realized she had over 400 pairs of shoes?!)

As a tribute to the latest Sex and the City release, I will be posting various pictures of the lovely ladies with some of their inspiring shoe choices, as well as links where you could purchase them yourself! Enjoy!

Sex and the City Poster with Gold Sparkly Shoes

A sparkly, gorgeous, and affordable pair of gold shoes, like those that Carrie is wearing in this Sex and the City poster, is the Ladybug High Heel Sequined Shoe by Chinese Laundry. This fabulous Chinese Laundry heel has the super trendy peep toe look, and will make you feel like a princess walking around in gold shimmer.  The Ladybug High Heel Sequined Shoe by Chinese Laundry is also on sale at DNA Footwear, so it’s easy and won’t break the bank to be as glamorous as Carrie Bradshaw!
