“The biggest stars of film and television descended upon the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 15 for Hollywood’s “biggest party” and for the announcement of this year’s 69th annual Golden Globes” (Hollywood Reporter). Television and film icons dripping in jewels, gowns, and tuxes proudly walked the red carpet as cameras flashed and fans gawked in awe from their living rooms.
Like many formal award ceremonies, the floor-length gowns often hide our favorite part: the shoes. Those who showed us some leg, provided us a peek at their sky-high stilettos — black, tan, metallic, black, some more tan, then a hint of metallic. Unlike the MTV awards or the Grammys, most played it cool with sopistocated simple pumps, none adventuring outside of the neutral palette. All in all, a ho-hum year for shoes, leaving us hoping for more.

My Week With Marilyn has rehashed our Marilyn Monroe obsession and apparently Ferragamo shares in our love for the fashion icon. Salvatore Ferragamo announced that Monroe will be the subject of an exhibition in Florence’s Museo Salvatore Ferragamo.
According to Interview Magazine, “the highlight of the exhibit will be the collection of 14 pairs of shoes Monroe had bought decades before in Ferragamo’s Park Avenue shop in New York. Ferragamo designed the shoes for the icon himself, including a pair of four-inch stiletto-heeled pumps he created to enhance Monroe’s calves and swaying walk.” In other news, Monroe-related fashion and art pieces will also be on display (not that we care as much about this as we do about the shoes!).
Opening in July, those of you lucky enough to live in Italy will get to peruse the classic icon’s closet — a dream of ours which we will envy you for forever.

If you weren’t at New York Fashion Week, then you might just be out of the footwear loop so let us recap what you NEED to know. Tsubo partnered up with emerging designer Timo Weiland to create a 7-piece capsule collection for their women’s Spring 2012 footwear line.
According to Tsubo Brand Manager, Jason Mora, “Timo Weiland has been on our radar for a long time. We were looking for an emerging designer with a similar aesthetic, who could incorporate his unique signature into our line, while still remaining true to Tsubo’s heritage. We’re very excited to debut our first collaborative collection with the Timo Weiland design house.”
Inspired by the romance between an Italian military commander and the daughter of an Italian seamstress during the 1930s, the collection features chunky demi-wedges and flatforms. Military theme — CHECK. Straps that look like club wristbands — CHECK. Wait, how are those ideas cohesive?!
We’ll look past the random wristband snap and continue to covet this collection. If Santa is listening, please add this to your IOU list because these babies won’t be released until January.

New Years Eve is quickly approaching and every magazine and blog is splattered with smiling faces and sparkly shoes. From Jeffrey Campbell to Miu Miu, sparkles have become synonymous with New Years and party attire but can there be TOO MANY sparkles?
Sparkly footwear is a surefire way to grab the attention of the cute guy across the room just before the ball drops but then again to your left another girl is wearing the same shoes and to your right a poor barely 21-something has been dipped in a sparkly batter. Quickly, your perfect glitter pumps are making you one in a million and not THE one.
So, the question this New Years Eve is…To Sparkle or Not To Sparkle?

Travel back in time with us as we explore the history of footwear.
1920′s — The 1920′s were about the fashionable flapper, flaunting short hair, short skirts, and risqué shoes with kitten heels.
1940′s — During WWII with nationalism at a height, footwear took a backseat and fashion lacked the importance it held in the 1920′s.
1960′s– Rightfully named the swingin’ 60′s, with Twiggy as a style icon women wanted to change the world (and fashion).
1980′s — Think leg warmers, shoulder pads, big hair, and jellies (yes, the jellies that made your feet sweat).
1990′s — The Spice Girls took the music and the fashion world by storm, bringing the UK to the US and along with them, platforms.
Today — Fashion bloggers and magazine editors dictate what’s in style and according to these “know-it-alls” Jeffrey Campbell Litas and flatforms are here to stay. The flatforms along with the Dr. Martens are a revivial of footwear from the past– flatforms are the new platform and Dr. Martens are no longer stuck in the 90′s. Along with the trend of bloggers dictating style comes celebrities engaging in footwear designs, including Rachel Zoe, Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Perez Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and more.
What’s next?
